Belkys Torres

Belkys Torres is the Associate Director for International Programs in the University Center for International Studies (UCIS) at the University of Pittsburgh. She holds a Ph.D. in Latin@ Literature and popular culture from the University of Notre Dame and has directed academic programs at that institution, as well as at the University of Miami and, now, at Pitt. As a leading member of a team that works to achieve the University’s global ambitions, Dr. Torres is the primary academic liaison for faculty, administrators, staff and students on international and global affairs both within and outside the University. Her responsibilities include: advancing and assessing global learning; improving processes and procedures related to international partnership agreements; managing UCIS grants and award programs; and, leading the implementation of key initiatives in Pitt’s strategic and global plans.

Dr. Torres has been heavily involved in the multiple phases of engagement, development and implementation of Embracing the World: A Global Plan for Pitt, 2016-2020. Within UCIS, she chairs the committees on academic affairs and evaluation and assessment. Recent projects include placing global learning at the center of UCIS academic affairs by restructuring student learning outcomes and the processes of program evaluation and assessment of our 11 undergraduate and 8 graduate certificate programs. She serves on the University’s Community Engagement Centers Advisory Council and on the executive board of the Hispanic/Latino Professional Association.
